An Evening With Phyllis Hyman, an Off-Broadway musical about the life of the singer-songwriter, has added three additional performances due to popular demand. Mighty Real and Priscilla Queen of the Desert star Jacqueline B. Arnold embodies Hyman, with performances set to take place this winter at The Actor’s Temple Theatre in New York.

An Evening With Phyllis Hyman will play January 28–February 5. The show, written by Kendrell Bowman and Anthony Wayne, and directed by Bowman, chronicles the inspirational life and career of Hyman.

Hyman starred on Broadway in the 1981 musical Sophisticated Ladies, earning her a Tony Award nomination. Throughout the 1970s and 90s, she recorded numerous soul and R&B albums, with hits that included “You Know How to Love Me,” and “Don’t Wanna Change the World.” Hyman battled with bipolar depression and passed away in 1995 from an overdose.

An Evening With Phyllis Hyman is presented by Anthony Wayne & Kendrell Bowman/AnthonyKen LLC in association with Sheryl Lee Ralph & The DIVA Foundation and Reginald Van Lee.
