Cabaret leading lady Andrea Marcovicci — who is currently celebrating her 15th season at New York's Algonquin Hotel — will record her latest show for CD.

Marcovicci, who is offering So in Love: The Love Songs of Cole Porter (through Jan. 12, 2003) at the famed cabaret, will head into the recording studio in March. The singer-actress confirmed the news to Playbill On-Line during a recent interview.

"It's going to be recorded, or a version of it," said Marcovicci. "I'm going to go into the studio in March. I was going to have a record by now, but then I realized that I would have been pushing it, and I'm so glad I didn't do it. . . Until I've sung a show for seven shows a week for a couple of months, I don't know which song has to be on the album, I don't know which arrangement has to be done that way . . . And you kick yourself if you make a record, and then three months later, you're singing at the Algonquin and you say, 'That's the stress of that line,' 'That's the meaning of that song, and woh, I missed it!' I'd hate that. We just roll with it around here," she laughed. "My feeling about my recordings is that they're a souvenir. I have never felt that as an artist that I've gotten the kind of distribution or national coverage that I would have liked. Therefore, there's no point in pushing for anything that's perfect! I'll take imperfection and be very satisfied!"

Among the Porter standards Marcovicci includes in her newest show are "I Get a Kick Out of You," "So in Love," "Why Can't You Behave?," "You Do Something to Me" as well as rarities like "Weren't We Fools?," "Allez-Vous en" and "Let's Not Talk About Love."

Andrea Marcovicci starred on Broadway in the short-lived musical Ambassador and in Frank D. Gilroy's Any Given Day. Her screen credits include roles in "The Front," "Someone to Love," "Jack the Bear," "Who Is Henry Jaglom?," "The Water Engine" and "Trapper John, M.D." It has been the cabaret stage, however, where she has received the most acclaim. The singer-actress has performed at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall and in concert halls throughout the world, and she has spent over a decade performing at the Algonquin's Oak Room. Her solo albums are numerous and include "Marcovicci Loves Movies," "What Is Love?," "Just Kern," "December Songs," "New Words," "Live from London" and "Some Other Time." One of Broadway's most prolific songwriters, Cole Porter's musicals include Fifty Million Frenchmen; Anything Goes; Jubilee; Red, Hot and Blue!; Leave It to Me!; DuBarry Was a Lady; Panama Hattie; Something for the Boys; Kiss Me, Kate; Out of This World; Can-Can; and Silk Stockings.

Show times for Andrea Marcovicci's Algonquin engagement are Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 9 PM with late shows on Friday and Saturday nights at 11:30 PM. There is a $15 minimum and a $50 music charge for 9 PM Tuesday shows and 11:30 PM Friday and Saturday shows. All other performances have a $50 music charge and a $50 prix fixe dinner requirement. There will be no performances on Dec. 24 and 25 or Jan. 1.

The Algonquin Hotel is located in New York City at 59 West 44th Street; call (212) 944-1618 for reservations.
