News Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's The Likes of Us to Premiere July 12 The first public performance of The Likes of Us — the first musical ever penned by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice — will be presented July 12 at London's Mermaid Theatre.

The concert performance will be taped for a future broadcast on BBC Radio 2, according to the official BBC website. The one-night-only event will be introduced by Paul Gambaccini; the radio broadcast is set for Friday, Sept. 30. The Likes of Us, written 40 years ago, was based on the life of Victorian philanthropist Dr. Barnardo. The musical will be part of Lloyd Webber's upcoming Sydmonton Festival July 9. The cast will reportedly feature Stephen Fry as narrator.

Together, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice wrote such hit musicals as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita.
