Classic Arts News Andsnes Disc of Rachmaninoff Debuts on Billboard Chart A CD of Rachmaninoff piano concertos featuring pianist Leif Ove Andsnes debuted on the Billboard classical chart this week at number 20.
The album, recorded with the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Antonio Pappano, includes the first and second concertos. The uptick in sales for the CD, which was released in October, comes as Andsnes visits the United States for concerts with the Cleveland Orchestra and a tour with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra.

Ren_e Fleming's Sacred Songs moved back into the top spot on the chart, pushing Andr_ Rieu's The Flying Dutchman to number two. Movers on the chart included Joshua Bell's recording of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto (also with the Berlin Philharmonic), which jumped from number eight to number four, and Dawn Upshaw's recording of Osvaldo Golijov's Grammy-nominated Ayre, which moved from number 24 to number 11.

On the classical-crossover chart, Il Divo's Christmas Collection remained at number one, with the group's Il Divo at number two. John Williams' score for the film Memoirs of a Geisha, which features cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Itzhak Perlman, jumped from number six to number three, its highest showing.
