Nyman, who will play Tevye, returns to the Menier Chocolate Factory having previously performed in Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins and Abigail’s Party. He was also recently seen in the West End in Martin McDonagh’s Hangmen and in the original production of his play Ghost Stories. While he works predominantly in the U.K., he is a 2017 Drama Desk Award winner for Derren Brown: Secret, which was seen at Atlantic Theatre Off-Broadway last season and which he co-wrote and co-directed. Other credits include The Commuter, Death at a Funeral, and Kick-Ass 2.

Fiddler on the Roof, the story of Tevye the milkman, his wife, and five daughters, features music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and a book by Joseph Stein. The musical was last seen in London in May 2007 at the Savoy Theatre with Henry Goodman as Tevye.

Further casting for the Chocolate Factory revival is yet to be announced.

Nunn is the former artistic director of London's National Theatre, where his productions included Troilus and Cressida, Oklahoma!, The Merchant of Venice, Summerfolk, My Fair Lady, A Streetcar Named Desire, Anything Goes, and Love’s Labour’s Lost.

He has directed the world premieres of Tom Stoppard’s plays Arcadia and Rock n Roll, which both transferred to Broadway, and The Coast of Utopia; and Cats, Sunset Boulevard, Starlight Express, and Aspects of Love by Andrew Lloyd Webber. On Broadway, he also helmed the most recent revival of Cats and Les Misérables, among numerous other shows.

Fiddler is currently being staged in Yiddish Off-Broadway in an acclaimed, extended production from National Theatre Folksbienne. The musical was last seen on Broadway in 2015.
