Classic Arts News Angela Gheorghiu and Richard James Albums Enter Billboard Chart, 5 Browns Stay at Top Position Albums by soprano Angela Gheorghiu and pianist Richard James entered the classical Billboard chart this week, at numbers 11 and 12, respectively.
Gheorgiu's Puccini Arias, recorded with the Chorus of the Royal Opera House and the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, contains such famous arias as "Mi chiamano MimÐ," from La bohme; "O mio babbino caro," from Gianni Schicchi; and "Un bel di vedremo," from Madama Butterfly. Arias from Edgar, La fanciulla del West, Manon Lescaut, and Turandot are also included.

As in a Dream is an album of James' piano works influenced by jazz, classical, and new-age styles.

The self-titled album by the piano-playing siblings the 5 Browns remains in the number-one position for the fourth week in a row, followed by the soundtrack to the film Les Choristes and Yo-Yo Ma's collection of film music by Ennio Morricone.

The largest sales gains this week were posted by the Choristes soundtrack (which jumped from number five to number two); pianist Lang Lang's recording, with the Mariisky Theater Orchestra, of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 (which moved from number seven to number five); violinist and conductor André Rieu's Tuscany (which stayed at number six); and the Gheorghiu and James albums.

The chart's longest resident is the soundtrack to the film Master and Commander, which has been there for 69 weeks.

The top two spots on the classical crossover chart remain the same, with Josh Groban's Closer and Andrea Bocelli's Andrea appearing in that order. In the number-three spot, Irish tenor Ronan Tynan's Ronan makes its first appearance.
