Ann Harada of Avenue Q is in the cast of the 6:30 PM reading at the Orbach, in the Snapple Theatre Center at 210 West 50th Street.
The Dirty Hippie Band Project has music by Daniel Israel, lyrics by Phoebe Kreutz and book by Adam Mathias and Kreutz. Alan Muraoka (Falsettoland for the National Asian American Theatre Company) directs.
The reading cast also includes Thomas Michael Allen (Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding); Mick Bonde (Show Choir); Suzanna Neeley Bridges (Les Misérables); Aaron LaVigne (Rent on tour); Michael "Tuba" McKinsey (Oliver!, national company) and Sandie Rosa (Wanda's World).
The show has been in development in the BMI-Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop. It was recently chosen for a BMI Master Class with the lyricist-composer team of Richard Maltby and David Shire (Closer than Ever, Baby).
Composer Daniel Israel "has created a modern theatrical sound using rock as a spice rather than a main course," according to production notes. He served as music assistant to Michael John LaChiusa for See What I Wanna See (Public Theater) and Bernarda Alba (Lincoln Center Theater). Single admission is $15. Bick Goss and Frank Evans are producing artistic directors of Musical Mondays Theatre Lab, Inc., which presents readings of new works on various nights of the week (including Tuneful Tuesdays and Musical Mondays).
On April 15 at 6:30 PM, Theatrical Thursdays presents a double bill preview of the musical Café Puttanesca, "a visit to a ribald Berlin eatery," by Barrymore Award-winning composer-Lyricist Michael Ogborn and Terrence J. Nolen, plus Now and Then, by Matt Landers and E. Miranda Moriera, in which "a doo-wop band reunion leads to surprising consequences."
Musical Mondays is celebrating its tenth anniversary presenting a first look at new musicals. Previous shows include Next to Normal, seen under the title of Feeling Electric, as well as the new musicals See Rock City, Calvin Berger and Wanda's World as well as new work by Amanda Green, Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx.
