PlayBlog Anna Deavere Smith Talks Let Me Down Easy On "Newshour" Anna Deavere Smith, who is currently performing Let Me Down Easy, her acclaimed play about the effects of the U.S. healthcare system, at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., recently sat down with PBS' "NewsHour" to discuss the play, which she created out of interviews with some 300 subjects, bringing 20 of them to life onstage.

Smith was a Tony Award nominee for Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 and a Pulitzer Prize finalist for Fires in the Mirror. She has also written House Arrest and performed on television in "Nurse Jackie" and "The West Wing" and on film in "Rachel Getting Married," "Rent," Philadelphia" and "Dave."

Let Me Down Easy will be filmed for broadcast on PBS' "Great Performances" at Arena Stage, where it ends its run Feb. 13 before continuing on a tour of other American regional theatres.
