Classic Arts News Anna Netrebko, Recovering from Laryngitis, Will Go Ahead with Germany Tour Soprano Anna Netrebko, whose recent bout of laryngitis caused her to cancel her appearances this week at the Salzburg Festival, will perform as announced in a four-concert tour of Germany set for later this month.
Deutsche Presse-Agentur reports today that DEAG, the agency producing the tour, has confirmed that she will go ahead with the performances (the first two of them in stadiums) in Cologne, Halle, Berlin and Stuttgart. This confirmation came even as DEAG announced that her tour co-star, tenor Rolando Villaz‹n, has withdrawn due to illness. (Earlier this week Villaz‹n cancelled his appearances in Salzburg as well.)

Three different tenors will fill in for their ailing colleague alongside Netrebko. Marcelo êlvarez will perform on August 18 in Cologne, Jos_ Cura will sing on August 22 in Halle, and Ram‹n Vargas will take the final two dates, August 26 in Berlin and August 31 in Stuttgart. (Vargas also substituted for Villaz‹n in three gala performance with Netrebko and Elina Garanca in Baden-Baden last month.)

Netrebko — who drew considerable ire from Salzburg Festival officials and the press when she cancelled her dates there — is still scheduled to sing her Salzburg program (Pergolesi's Stabat Mater with countertenor Andreas Scholl) next Monday, August 13, at the Tuscan Sun Festival in Cortona, Italy.
