Annapurna Sriram, seen Off-Broadway in The New Group’s production of The Spoils, will lead the cast of the upcoming world premiere of Whirlwind at The Wild Project. The second work in playwright Jordan Jaffe's “Energy” Series, the play looks at the intersection of business, science, and sexual politics when “going green.”
Whirlwind, directed by Dan Amboyer, will begin performances January 23, 2019, ahead of a January 28 opening night. The limited run is scheduled through February 10.
Sriram will star as Bethany, a health and safety manager who is tasked with distracting and diverting the efforts of Michael, a wildlife advocate, from challenging the expansion of their wind farm. Her assignment becomes all the more complicated when the two become romantically entangled, and while Bethany also dodges inappropriate courting from her boss, Cooper.
Christian Conn (Broadway’s Desire Under the Elms, Red Bull Theater’s The School for Scandal) will play Michael, and Johnny Wu (Broadway’s Chinglish, Ma-Yi’s Washer/Dryer) will play Cooper.
Whirlwind will feature scenic design by Lianne Arnold; costume design by Loren Shaw; lighting design by David Sexton; sound design by Matthew Fischer; and props design by Sarah George. Laura Malseed serves as stage manager, and casting is by Calleri Casting.
Jaffe is a playwright, director, and producer. In addition to Whirlwind, his 'Energy' plays include include Crude (Theater 511 at Ars Nova) and Chained.
