Kyle Hatley will direct the poignant work, which debuted Off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons in 2009 and earned the Obie Award for Best New American Play and a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble. Circle Mirror Transformation will officially open Feb. 25 for a run through March 20.
The five-person cast will include Mark Robbins as James, Izzy Baldwin (Saved) as Lauren, Tom Aulino (Candide at the Goodman Theatre) as Schultz, Lee Roy Rogers (When the Rain Stops Falling, Orson's Shadow) as Marty and Kim Stauffer as Theresa.
Circle Mirror Transformation, according to KC Rep, "delivers an emotional punch when five people sign up for an acting class, each having his or her own expectations. Through a series of hilarious theatre games and exercises, they begin to unpeel the layers of their everyday lives and learn far more than they bargained for about each other and themselves."
The KC Rep production will have set design by Mehgan Raham, costume design by Megan Turek, lighting and projection design by Jeffrey Cady and sound design by Michael Griggs.
Baker's plays also include The Aliens (OBIE Award for Best New American Play), Body Awareness (Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations for Best Play/Emerging Playwright) and Nocturama. For tickets visit KCRep.
