This year, Kids' Night on Broadway will be held on four consecutive Tuesday evenings: Jan. 25, Feb. 1, 8 and 15. Each night will also feature a pre-theatre party, and all participants will receive a special Kids' Night on Broadway Playbill. Most curtain times will be at 7 PM, and many restaurants in the theatre area will offer special Kids' Night deals.
Tony Award winner Sutton Foster and Maureen McGovern, who co-star in the new musical Little Women, will be on hand Jan. 25 for the first pre-theatre party, which will be held at Macy's Herald Square at 34th Street. Foster and McGovern will unveil a specially themed Kids' Night window at the flagship Macy's store. The festivities will also include performances from Little Women's Julie Foldesi and Rent's Matt Caplan and Cary Shields. Additionally, kids will be treated to dance lessons, costume and make-up sessions, mock auditions, karaoke and art contests. The window unveiling is set for 3 PM, and the other events will begin at 3:30 PM.
Among the shows participating in this season's Kids' Night are Avenue Q, Beauty and the Beast, Brooklyn Boy, Brooklyn, Chicago, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Fiddler on the Roof, Hairspray, La Cage aux Folles, Little Women, Movin' Out, Rent, The Phantom of the Opera, The Producers, Wicked and Wonderful Town and Off-Broadway's Cookin' and Stomp.
To date, Kids' Night on Broadway has provided hundreds of thousands of kids the chance to attend live New York theatre. In a statement League President Jed Bernstein said, "Every child remembers his or her first Broadway show. On Kids Night on Broadway, families can experience the excitement of taking their kids to the theatre and enjoy a whole array of family-friendly discounts. The Broadway community is committed to providing opportunities for young people to experience the magic of live theatre. We know that the genesis of adult theatergoing often begins with attending theatre as a child. We believe that by making it easier for parents to introduce young people to theatre, Broadway is making a vital investment in its future."
