Variety reports that the show will feature Talbert and actor Blair Underwood ("L.A. Law") as judges who evaluate the ten participating actors.
The winners will be understudies in the play's five-month U.S. tour — which begins in Houston Jan. 11 — and will then get leading roles in Talbert's next play.
TV One, a cable network aimed at black audiences, was the second fastest-growing cable network in 2006, climbing by 10.3 million subscribers to 34.9 million, Variety reports.
Already cast in Love in the Nick of Tyme are Morris Chestnut ("Boyz n the Hood"), Ellia English ("The Jamie Foxx Show") and the R&B artist Avant. The play features new songs by the R&B vocalist Vivian Green and is co-presented by Talbert and the cable network BET.
