Makes American Premiere April 20 Casa 0101 Theater artistic director Josefina López presents the American premiere of Armand Gatti's The Imaginary Life of the Street Sweeper, August G., translated into English and directed by Emmanuel Deleage, April 20 in California.

The Imaginary Life of the Street Sweeper, August G., according to press notes, "recounts the life of August G., the author's father, a World War I veteran and street sweeper, destined by fate to a meaningless existence. As a marathon of memories flash before his eyes, he travels through time and space for one last rendezvous with his friends and enemies."

The production, which includes live music and video projections, features a cast of 31 actors led by Serafín Falcón as August G., 46, a street sweeper who receives a blow to the head while striking for better working conditions. The limited engagement continues through May 13.

The Imaginary Life of the Street Sweeper, August G. premiered in France in 1962 in French.

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz (Anna in the Tropics)  is scheduled to attend the opening-night performance as the guest of honor at a private reception, which is a fundraiser for a production of Cruz's Lorca in a Green Dress, set for July-August 2012 at Casa 0101 Theater. Other members of the creative team include prop designer López, assistant director Vilma Villela, set designer Marco Deleon, costume designer Carlos Brown, musical director Geoff Gallegos, lighting designer Samantha Ross, choreographer Lindsey Stakoe, graphic designer Gabriela Lopez de Dennis, stage manager Elna Kordijian and assistant stage managers Bianca Uli Estrada and Mickey Miramontes. Gina Linn Espinoza, Estelle Campbell and Sherrie Lofton produce.
