A 26-year-old woman has surrendered to New York City police following the death of cabaret and Broadway vocal coach Barbara Maier Gustern March 15. Gustern died from a head injury sustained after being pushed onto the street in what is currently believed to be an unprovoked attack March 10.
According to the New York Times, NYC police are alleging that Gustern was fatally shoved by Astoria resident Lauren Pazienza, who now faces charges of manslaughter.
Gustern's students reportedly included Blondie front woman Debbie Harry, performance artist Taylor Mac, and cast members from the 2019 Tony-winning Broadway revival of Oklahoma!. She was on her way to The Public's cabaret venue Joe's Pub to see a student perform the night of the attack.
Gustern is survived by a grandson, AJ.
