Ars Nova, Ma-Yi Theater, and the Woodshed Collective have announced initial casting for the world premiere of KPOP, a new immersive theatrical event that invites audiences backstage at a K-Pop music factory. The cast of 18 will include Sunday in the Park with George’s Ashley Park, If/Then’s Jason Tam, Nerds’s Katie Lee Hill, James Seol (Small Mouth Sounds), and Ebony Williams, who was a dancer on Beyoncé’s recent Formation World Tour.

Billed as a “high-octane immersive event,” KPOP will run September 5–October 7 Off-Broadway in the newly built A.R.T/New York Theatres in Manhattan. Two additional cast members will be announced at a later date.

The show is conceived by Woodshed Collective and Jason Kim (The Model American, HBO’s Girls) and features a book by Kim, music and lyrics by Helen Park and Max Vernon (The View UpStairs), an immersive design by Woodshed Collective, choreography by Jennifer Weber (The Hip Hop Nutcracker) and directed by Teddy Bergman (Empire Travel Agency).

The cast will also include: Julia Abueva, Cathy Ang, Joomin Hwang, Jinwoo Jung, Jiho Kang, Deborah Kim, Susannah Kim, Sun Hye Park, James Saito, David Shih, and John Yi.

The creative team also includes production designer Gabriel Hainer Evansohn, costume designer Tricia Barsamian, lighting designer Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew, sound designer Will Pickens, projection and video designer Phillip Gulley, and production stage manager Lizzy Lee.
