News Arthur Laurents' "The Rest of the Story" Will Hit Shelves in September Applause Books will publish "The Rest of the Story," a memoir chronicling the final years of Tony-winning playwright Arthur Laurents, which the late Gypsy and West Side Story writer completed before his death last year.

"The Rest of the Story," which will be released this September, picks up where Laurents' autobiography "Original Story By" left off. The first book was published in 2000, prior to the death of Laurents' partner Tom Hatcher, and before Laurents would return to direct a triumphant Broadway revival of Gypsy with Patti LuPone in 2008 and West Side Story in 2009.

The 216-page book, according to Applause, "is filled with the wisdom Laurents gained in growing older and a new perspective brought on by his experience of deep personal loss, including the death of his longtime companion, Tom Hatcher... Laurents' style remains engrossing and brutally honest, his voice still highly intelligent, loving, generous, and gracious. He remained committed to his artistic vision to the very end, as captured in the epilogue, which he completed only days before his death. The book ends with a loving and insightful coda by Laurents' good friend and editor of this book, award-winning director David Saint."

"The Rest of the Story" will retail for $24.99.

Laurents died at the age of 93 on May 5, 2011. In addition to authoring Gypsy and West Side Story, he penned the books to Anyone Can Whistle, I Can Get It for You Wholesale, as well as the play Home of the Brave and the screenplay for "The Way We Were."
