Classic Arts News Artie Shaw's Ex-Wife Sues His Estate Evelyn Keys, one of the late bandleader Artie Shaw's ex-wives, has sued Shaw's estate for more than $1 million, the Ventura County Star reports.
Keys, an actress who was married to Shaw from 1957 to 1985, claims that she loaned him $150,000 in the early 1970s. At the time, she said in her suit, Shaw was short of money and was attempting to recover royalties from record companies and movie studios. He agreed to repay the loan or give her 50 percent of the money he recovered, whichever was greater, Keys claims.

Keys also says that she and Shaw signed a contract promising that they would leave their entire estates to each other.

Shaw died in December, 50 years after he retired from the music business. His hits included "Begin the Beguine," "Frenesi," and "Summit Ridge Drive."
