Not only will Actors' Equity conduct membership business at its Jan. 9 meeting, the actors' union will also distribute three awards to actors who appeared in classical plays last season.

Helen Carey (London Assurance) and Max Wright (Ivanov) won the Joe A. Callaway Award for best performance by a female and male actor in a classic play in the NY metropolitan area. Also, Jayne Atkinson will receive the St. Claire Bayfield Award for best performance by an unfeatured actor in a Shakespearean play in the NY metropolitan area. Atkinson was Wright's cast-mate in Ivanov, but she's winning the award for her work as Queen Katherine in last summer's Henry VIII in Central Park.

Also on the agenda for the Jan. 9 general meeting will be a talk by Anne Jackson and Eli Wallach. Jackson, a three-time Tony nominee, is married to Wallach, currently starring in Visiting Mr. Green Off-Broadway.

According to Equity spokesperson Helaine Feldman, the meeting is not open to the public, but Equity members are encouraged to attend.

Spokesperson Feldman told Playbill On-Line Joe A. Callaway created many awards, including one administered by the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers. St. Claire Bayfield was an old Shakespearean actor who died a couple of decades ago and left a bequest for an award in his name. -- By David Lefkowitz
