Cabaret performers take note: Grammy- and Emmy-winning composer, orchestrator, and music director John McDaniel has announced that applications are being accepted for fellowships at the 2017 Cabaret & Performance Conference at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center.

The two-week summer intensive consists of six hours of classes a day. Fellows receive one-on-one coaching from working professional music directors, work with celebrity guest artists, prepare for a public performance, and participate in nightly open mic sessions. Areas of study also include ear training, mic technique, harmony, and group dynamics. Barb Jungr and Lennie Watts serve as the master teachers.

Guest artists for the 2017 conference have not yet been announced. Past conference artists have included Norm Lewis, Molly Pope, Melissa Manchester, Karen Mason, The Skivvies, Shirley Jones, Jim Caruso, Billy Stritch, Mimi Hines, Betty Buckley, and Tommy Tune.

McDaniel earned his Emmy as music director for The Rosie O’Donnell Show, and served as orchestrator or music director for Broadway’s Annie Get Your Gun, Grease (1994 revival), and Catch Me If You Can. He said, “I encourage any singers and performers who would like to up their game and broaden their horizons to apply to become a Fellow—it's consistently a memorable experience for those who attend.”
