Audra McDonald (Ragtime) and the Who's Roger Daltrey (A Christmas Carol) will light the 1998 Broadway Christmas Tree at 5:30 PM Dec. 9 in Duffy Square.

The 25 foot tree is decorated each year with colored holiday lights and ornaments representing every show currently playing on and off Broadway.

After the lighting, there will be holiday song singing. The Theatre Development Fund will also announce the creation of a $5,000 annual gift to be donated to a not-for-profit organization serving the theatre community. This year's recipient is the Actors' Fund.

Following the ceremony, a moment of silence will be held in remembrance of people the theatre community lost in the last year.

The Broadway Holiday Tree is presented by the Theatre Development Fund, The League of American Theatres and Producers and Times Square Business Improvement District. Duffy Square is located at 46th and Broadway and is home to the Theatre Development Fund's TKTS booth.
