News Aunt Stossie's Coming for Five Days Gets Starry Reading in CA Jan. 8-9, With Marsha Mason and More Marsha Mason, Mary Steenburgen and Kristen Vangsness are among the women performing in a California staged reading of Ellen Simon's Aunt Stossie's Coming for Five Days as part of The Pasadena Playhouse's Hothouse at the Playhouse series of new works.

The play, presented Jan. 8-9 in the Carrie Hamilton Theatre at The Pasadena Playhouse, is billed as "a comedic drama about what happens when the uninvited enters your life," according to Playhouse notes. "Set in a Central California beach town, three generations of women and two surfer boys navigate the entanglements of sex, health and family after a tsunami warning sign goes up in their neighborhood."

Dámaso Rodriguez directs a cast that features Mason ("The Goodbye Girl," "Chapter Two," "The Middle") as Aunt Stossie; Steenburgen ("30 Rock," Bored to Death," "Time After Time") as Aunt Mead; Vangsness ("Criminal Minds") as Kelly; Liza de Weerd as Jill; Beth Triffon as Alice; Kim Dalton as Bryanna; Grant Jordan as Ryan; and Lucas Durham as Sean. Taylor Emerson will read stage directions.

Playwright Simon said in a statement, "My previous experience at Hothouse with my play, Ass, generated much enthusiasm and helped me deepen and refocus the script."

Directors Rodriguez is former associate artistic director of The Pasadena Playhouse and incoming artistic director for the Artists Repertory Theatre in Portland.
