The Austin (TX) Circle of Theatres and the AusTix ticket discounter are co-sponsoring the second annual "Seats for the City" ticket giveaway event Saturday, Nov. 2.

More than 1,000 tickets to theatre, dance, music and children's theatre events now through June 1997 will be given out, free, on a first-come first-served basis starting at noon. Only two tickets will be issued per person. The line is expected to begin forming at the southeast corner of 9th and Congress in Austin substantially in advance of the noon opening time, according to Ann Ciccolella, executive director of the Circle.

Free tickets will be available for Peter Pan, Esther's Follies, Austin Chamber Music Society, Tapestry Dance Co., Zachary Scott Theatre, Austin Lyric Opera, The Glass Menagerie, A Christmas Carol, Bobby McFerrin, Winton Marsalis, and a dozen children's shows, including Bubblemania, Aladdin and Winnie the Pooh.

Also Gilbert & Sullivan, Austin Vocal Arts Ensemble, Sherlock Holmes, Cyrano and You Can't Take it With You.

Ciccolella told Playbill On-Line that most of the tickets are for traditionally slow previews and weeknights, but that some of the arts groups found themselves "comping" or giving away tickets for those nights anyway. "It's a way of comping people you don't know," she said. "It helps people [sample new things] on a no-risk basis." For more information: (512) 320-7168.
