News Avenue Q Tony Award Winners Sign with R&H Org's Williamson Music Tony Award-winning composer-lyricists Jeff Marx and Robert Lopez — the duo who penned Avenue Q — are now represented by another songwriting duo's company, The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization.

Marx and Lopez have signed with Williamson Music, a division of the R&H establishment. "We couldn't be more thrilled that the home of so many legendary musical theatre writers is now going to be our home too," stated the team in a release.

"We are delighted to welcome Bobby and Jeff to our fold," said Williamson Music president Maxyne Berman Lang. "Their work is fresh and captivating and original. As songwriters, they evoke the wit and topicality of Broadway in its Golden Era, but with a sensibility and point of view that are totally modern — and utterly unique."

As part of the agreement, Williamson Music now represent the entire catalogue of the Tony Award-winning Best Score of the Best Musical, Avenue Q, including the show's cut song "Tear It Up And Throw It Away (The Jury Duty Song)."

Lopez and Marx join the likes of such songwriters as Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II, Lorenz Hart, Irving Berlin, Adam Guettel and Stephen Sondheim — all represented by Williamson Music. The company was founded in 1944 by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II (the name is derived from both collaborators being sons of men named William). Williamson Music (ASCAP) and R&H Music (BMI) became part of The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization in 1988. For more information, visit www.williamsonmusic.com.

* Avenue Q sends up popular children's television shows such as "Sesame Street" and "The Electric Company," while serving up a bounty of pop culture references and solving the mystery of the whereabouts of former "Diff'rent Strokes" child star Gary Coleman. The production bears the warning: "Full puppet nudity, not suitable for children."

The show's creators Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx earned a Tony for their score as did bookwriter Jeff Whitty, and the musical itself garnered the top Best Musical prize at the 2004 Tony Awards.

Avenue Q plays at the Golden Theatre, 252 West 45 Street. For more information on the show and events, visit www.avenueq.com.
