Classic Arts News Avery Fisher Career Grants Announced Violinist James Ehnes, cellist Priscilla Lee, the Mir‹ Quartet, and pianist Shai Wosner have been awarded Avery Fisher Career Grants, the Avery Fisher Artist Program announced.
The Mir‹ Quartet is the first chamber group to receive the grant.

The $15,000 award is given annually to young performers with "great potential for major careers." It was endowed with a gift from philanthropist Avery Fisher in 1974. Previous winners include Joshua Bell, Hilary Hahn, and Ursula Oppens.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony today at Lincoln Center, at which Lee, Wosner, and the Mir‹ Quartet will perform (Ehnes is unable to attend). Their performances will be broadcast on WQXR 96.3 FM on May 9 at 7 p.m.
