Written and directed by Laura Eason, with additional staging by Heidi Stillman, Around the World had its world premiere in 2008 at Chicago's Lookingglass Theatre. The KC Rep staging is a co-presentation with Baltimore's Centerstage. An official opening has been set for Jan. 29. The cast features Lance Baker (Phileas Fogg), Usman Ally (Mr. Naidu), Rom Barkhordar (Captain Speedy), Ravi Batista (Mrs. Aouda), Joe Dempsey (Inspector Fix), Kevin Douglas (Passepartout), Patrick New (Colonel Proctor) and Ericka Ratcliff (Captain Von Darius). Cast members double as other characters from Verne's novel.

"The wealthy Phileas Fogg—a dedicated man of scientific reason—has staked his entire fortune on his idea that the globe can be circumnavigated in a mere 80 days," according to press notes. "Will bandits, a herd of buffalo, an act of chivalry and a meddlesome inspector from Scotland Yard prevent him from fulfilling this inconceivable task? Follow Fogg and his loyal valet Passepartout from the misty alleys of Victorian London to the steamy subcontinent; aboard steamships, locomotives and elephants—as he learns about the heart, himself and a world that is much larger than he ever anticipated."

The production will have scenic design by Jacqueline and Richard Penrod, costume design by Mara Blumenfeld, lighting design by Lee Keenan, sound design by Joshua Horvath and musical compositions by Kevin O’Donnell.

Performances will run through Feb. 14 in the Rep's Spencer Theatre. For tickets, visit KCRep.
