News Balaban to Direct Addicted Comedy at Off-Bway's Zipper Theatre The New York premiere of Addicted . . . a comedy of substance will be presented at Off-Broadway's Zipper Theatre beginning Nov. 7, 2003.

Written and performed by Mark Lundholm, Addicted is a one-man odyssey through "childhood, adolescence, addiction, fatherhood, homelessness, rehab and a successful stand-up comedy career." The playwright/performer, who was a resident in a halfway house in 1988, began his journey by poking fun at his own life. Since that time, he has written and performed in three one-man shows as well as a Showtime comedy special. Bob Balaban, who directs the play, said in a statement, "I've never heard anyone expose their life as a comedy routine like this, so honest and moving. . . . The show is about overcoming obstacles." Presented by Clear Channel Entertainment, the creative team for Addicted also features Walt Spangler (set design), Paul Miller (lighting design) and Randy Hansen and Duncan Edwards (sound design).

Addicted has already played limited engagements throughout the country. Tour stops have included Miami's Coconut Grove Playhouse, Chicago's Royal George Theatre Center, Denver's Ricketson Theater and Montreal's Just for Laughs Festival. It will officially open at the Zipper on Jan. 8, 2004.

The comedy will play Wednesday through Friday evenings at 8 PM, Saturdays at 5, 8 and 10:30 PM and Sundays at 3 and 7 PM. Tickets, priced at $40, are available by calling (212) 239-6200 or logging on to www.telecharge.com. The Zipper Theatre is located at 336 West 37th Street. The theatre's box office opens for business Monday, Oct. 27.
