News Balls… The Musical? Swings Off-Broadway Beginning Dec. 7 Balls… The Musical?, which was seen as part of the 2011 New York Musical Theatre Festival, returns for a limited Off-Broadway run beginning Dec. 7 at the Lion Theatre.

Created by Bret Carr, Mick Bonde, Brandon Ellis (Company), Michael "Tuba" McKinsey and Nick Verina (Follies), Balls… will officially open Dec. 8 for a run through Dec. 24. The production uses known Broadway tunes by Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman and more with some fresh comic lyrics.

The production reunites the original NYMF cast and creative team, including director Kasey Marino, as well as cast members Bonde, Carr, Ellis and Will Ray. New to the production is two-time Emmy Award winner Nikkieli DeMone ("Bad Street," "The Eyes of God," Rent).

Here's how the show is billed: "Take an unruly quintet of testosterone laden performers; brilliant talent on the piano, add in the reinterpretation of a few old musical theater 'chestnuts,' and POW! you get a hilarious hour and a half of entertainment! Bridged with heartfelt moments, Balls unabashedly celebrates its own inappropriateness. Sooo…Buckle your seatbelts and join us as we examine the role of the straight male in musical theatre!"

The creative team includes Sonny Paladino (music director), Abby Lee (choreographer/assistant director), Timothy Parrish (lighting design) and Jessica Paz (sound design). Balls…the Musical? is produced by Blue Balls Inc. in association with JAKK Productions.
