Classic Arts News Baltic Sea Festival Features Concerts on Cruise Ships and in Finland, Poland, Swedish, Estonia This year's Baltic Sea Festival kicks off today with pre-festival concerts on cruise ships as well as in Stockholm, Helsinki, Turku, Tallinn, and Gdansk.
The festival itself begins in Stockholm on August 13, and runs through August 19.

The Silja Line boats will travel from Stockholm to Helsinki, with performances on board by ensembles from the Kirov Orchestra, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Manfred Honeck, festival artistic director Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Valery Gergiev.

During the cruise, concerts will also be taking place at venues in other Baltic countries.

The festival proper features performances by the above-mentioned orchestras, and others, as well as such soloists as pianist H_lne Grimaud and soprano Solveig Kringelborn.

The Baltic Sea Festival is dedicated to promoting the musical development of and cooperation between the Baltic States.
