Disney Theatrical Productions president Thomas Schumacher, Jujamcyn president Rocco Landesman and producers Scott Sanders (The Color Purple), Roger Berlind (Curtains) and Margo Lion (Hairspray) host the event.
George C. Wolfe (Caroline, or Change and Take Me Out) will direct a short performance featuring Christine Ebersole (Grey Gardens), Marcia Gay Harden (Angels in America), Kristen Johnston (The Women), Phylicia Rashad (A Raisin in the Sun), Ruben Santiago-Hudson (Gem of the Ocean), Jeffrey Wright (Topdog / Underdog) and the Broadway Inspirational Voices.
Readings from the works of Eugene O'Neill, Arthur Miller, Thornton Wilder, Clifford Odets, Tennessee Williams, David Mamet, Tony Kushner and August Wilson will be compiled by John Lahr, Marsha Norman and Jack Viertel. Obama is also scheduled to speak.
"Through our greatest playwrights and the Broadway experience, we articulate the longings and moral dilemmas of our time," said the producers. "Whether in musical song or drama, the art of the theatre helps us define and understand the dreams and debates of the nation. This, too, is what Obama is about, and why this mutual celebration is so significant."
Tickets ($250 to $2,300) to the event at the New Amsterdam Theatre, 214 West 42nd Street, are available by calling (212) 763-4853.
