Entertainment Weekly reports that the Tony-winning actress will join the cast of ABC-TV's "Ugly Betty" for a minimum of three episodes. Baranski will play the mother of Betty's newest love interest, Matt, who is played by actor Daniel Eric Gold. Baranski is expected to debut on the acclaimed series in March.
Christine Baranski won Tonys for her work in Rumors and The Real Thing and has also been seen on the New York stage in Boeing-Boeing, Regrets Only, A Midsummer Night's Dream (Obie Award), The House of Blue Leaves and Lips Together, Teeth Apart as well as the Encores! production of Promises, Promises. Baranski has also achieved much success on TV, winning an Emmy Award for her performance as the boozy best friend on "Cybill." Her film credits include "Mamma Mia!," "Legal Eagles," "Addams Family Values," "Jeffrey" and "The Birdcage." Baranski was also seen in the Kennedy Center productions of Mame and Sweeney Todd.
"Ugly Betty" stars America Ferrera as Betty Suarez, Eric Mabius as Daniel Meade, Tony Plana as Ignacio, Ana Ortiz as Hilda, Ashley Jensen as Christina, Becki Newton as Amanda, Mark Indelicato as Justin, Michael Urie as Marc, Judith Light as Claire Meade and Vanessa Williams as Wilhelmina Slater. Rebecca Romijn is a recurring guest star as Alexis Meade.
