The Albany, NY, venue will present the Tony-nominated play beginning Sept. 10 with an official opening scheduled for Sept. 15.

Gordon Greenberg will direct a cast that also includes two-time Tony nominee Bob Stillman as Ludwig Von Beethoven. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

The show launches Capital Rep's 2010-11 30th anniversary season.

33 Variations, according to press notes, "tells the parallel stories of obsession and self-discovery – Beethoven's obsession of the 33 variations of a single piece of music and a present-day musicologist's quest to understand his obsession – at the end of their lives."

Walsh was nominated for two Drama Desk Awards: for Outstanding Featured Actress in a musical for her roles as Joanne in Company (2007) and Trina in Falsettos (1992) (she was also nominated for the 1992 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her work in the latter). Stillman, a veteran performer, composer and musical director, was nominated for two Tony Awards: for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his performances as Frank Wallace, Ed Hearn and others in Dirty Blonde and in 2003 for Best Original Score for Urban Cowboy.

33 Variations began previews on Broadway Feb. 9, 2009, at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre and opened officially on March 9. When the limited engagement ended May 21, 2009, it had played 31 preview performances and 85 regular performances. The play (marking Fonda's return to Broadway after 46 years) was nominated for five 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Play, Best Leading Actress in a Play (Jane Fonda), Best Featured Actor in a Play (Zach Grenier, as composer Ludwig von Beethoven), Best Scenic Design of a Play (Derek McLane) and Best Lighting Design of a Play (David Lander). The Broadway production was directed by its author.
