A year ago, Kevin Barry's In Rebel Country, a contemporary drama about two men visiting James Dean's grave, played at Cincinnati, OH's Know Theatre Tribe. Earlier this season, Barry's Him was paired with Christopher Durang's Sister Mary Ignatius, also at Know. Now Barry has a different story to tell, with Track & Field, set to premiere at Know Theatre June 15 for a three-weekend run through June 30.
Sounding like a kinder, gentler Oleanna, Track & Field concerns a "conservative, married drama professor who reveals his infatuation with a female student when he writes his first play," according to author Barry.
Staged by Know artistic director Jay Kalagayan, Track & Field stars Sherry Rowland, Daniel Britt, Sara Frank and Daniel White.
At the time of In Rebel Country, Barry told Playbill On-Line, "I've had ten plays produced, in L.A., Denver, Chicago and New York, so I'm excited to be able to work locally and be part of the production, which I haven't been in the past. We have an all-local cast and the whole experience is rare because in theatre today, getting a new play produced is rare. So, getting a theatre to back you and run for a month is exciting."
In 1999, Barry's play Distracted by the Landscape opened at the Moving Arts Theatre in Los Angeles. For information on Track & Field visit www.knowtheatre.com or call (513) 871-1429. This season, the Know Theatre Tribe has also offered Redwood Curtain and will, in August, stage A Girl's Guide to Chaos.
