Based on the Academy Award-nominated 1988 film by Pedro Almodovar, the musical was adapted for the stage by Tony Award-nominated Dirty Rotten Scoundrels collaborators David Yazbek (music and lyrics) and Jeffrey Lane (book).

Sher, who staged the technically ambitious 2010 Broadway production, told Playbill.com, "I'm going to be doing Women on the Verge next year in London, hopefully." The director is currently at work on the new Broadway musical The Bridges of Madison County.

The Broadway production of Women on the Verge, which opened Nov. 4, 2010, at the Belasco Theatre was short-lived. The musical played 30 previews and 69 performances when it closed Jan. 2, 2011. Yazbek and Lane have since made adjustments to the script and score, which is currently licensed by Music Theatre International.

The musical includes such songs as "Madrid," "Lie to Me," "Lovesick," "Time Stood Still," "Model Behavior," "My Crazy Heart," "The Microphone," "Island," "On the Verge," "Mother's Day," "Invisible" and "Talk to Me."

The New York premiere boasted Patti LuPone, Sherie Rene Scott, Laura Benanti and Brian Stokes Mitchell.
