Amanda Denhert (Stratford Festival's Cabaret) will direct the production that will run July 15-Aug. 8 in the Ethel M. Barber Theatre. Fela! associate choreographer Maija Garcia will choreograph the new musical.
Bartram (music and lyrics) and Hill (book) will begin an 11-week residency on the Northwestern University campus as part of the production. Voyage was recently presented in a 10-week workshop at Northwestern in early 2010. A demo recording features Tony Award-winning actress Faith Prince.
Casting will be announced shortly.
Based on the Timothy Findley novel of the same title, AMTP describes the production as "a provocative new musical about an ordinary family faced with extraordinary circumstances. Secrets lie just beneath the surface of this darkly funny, modern re-imagining of the Great Flood."
Designing the production will be Tony-winning scenic designer Eugene Lee, costumer Melissa Torchia, sound designer Josh Horvath and lighting designer Lee Fiskness. David Holcenberg (Bye Bye Birdied, Mamma Mia!) will serve as music director. Together Bartram and Hill have penned the musicals The Nightingale and the Rose, Clara’s Piano and Somewhere in the World. Their musical The Story of My Life played a brief Broadway run in 2009, garnering four Drama Desk Award nominations. PS Classics released the Broadway cast recording.
Last season AMTP presented the new musical Dangerous Beauty, which was penned by Jeannine Dominy, Michele Brourman and Amanda McBroom; and Girls vs. Boys, by Chris Mathews, Jake Minton, Nathan Allen and Kevin O'Donnell.
Stuart Oken and Dominic Missimi founded AMTP, which seeks to provide a nurturing environment for new theatre works within an educational setting.
