Stephen Carlile takes over as the villainous Scar in the Broadway company of the Disney musical The Lion King at the evening performance January 31.

In the long-running musical adaptation of the hit Disney animated film, Carlile plays the role of the royal uncle Scar, who murders his brother the king and usurps the throne that belongs to the young prince Simba. He sings the number “Be Prepared.”

The British-born Carlile will be making his Broadway debut. He originated the role of Scar in the U.K. tour of The Lion King. He appeared in the original London cast of the musical The Producers and played Freddy Eynsford-Hill in My Fair Lady (NT/Cameron Mackintosh). He played Captain Hook in a U.S. tour of Peter Pan 360.

Having celebrated its 19th anniversary in November 2016, the Broadway production of The Lion King continues at the Minskoff Theatre in New York.
