You don't have to live in London to become The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. You, too, can be Sweeney Todd — or his accomplice, Mrs. Lovett. A search on the internet reveals Halloween costumes inspired by Tim Burton's 2007 film version of Stephen Sondheim's gory musical Sweeney Todd.
Drawing from Colleen Atwood's Academy Award-nominated designs for the film, this Deluxe Sweeney Todd Costume featured on HalloweenScream.com is a replica of the costume worn by star Johnny Depp. The wig (sold separately) features Sweeney's crazy signature hairstyle, complete with white streak. The costume includes a shirt and attached vest, a collar, scarf and pants. Sweeney fans can also purchase a jumbo 24-inch "razor" and a 14-inch razor with a pouch to complete the ensemble.
A Deluxe Mrs. Lovett Costume is also available for women (or men, one guesses) in sizes Small, Medium and Large. It's a replica of the costume worn by Helena Bonham Carter. It retails for $136.
Tim Burton's "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" opened in movie theatres on Dec. 21, 2007 and was released on DVD April 1, 2008.
A search for Halloween wigs and costumes inspired by the film "Hairspray" proved even more frightening than the "Sweeney" duds. Here's a Link Larkin Wig sure to scare your friends. It's on clearance.
