Stage legend Chita Rivera was nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for her work in Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life, in which she narrated and occasionally enacted the story of her life. Lisa Kron, meanwhile, played Lisa Kron in her own play Well, which examined Kron's childhood and relationship with her mother Ann Kron. She is nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play. (Ann, by the way, was not played by the real Ann Dowd, but by actress Jayne Houdyshell.)

Rivera has been nominated for nine Tony Awards, winning twice, for The Rink and Kiss of the Spider Woman. This is Kron's first Tony nomination.
