News Beane-Flinn Musical Lysistrata Jones to Get Workshop at Drama Dept. in June As Off-Broadway's Drama Dept. prepares for its latest production, Mondo Drama, by Douglas Carter Beane, plans are in the works to bring another Beane project to fruition. The company will workshop Lysistrata Jones, a musical Beane wrote with Lewis Flinn, in June.

Christopher Ashley, a frequent Drama Dept. Collaborator, will direct. No cast has been announced.

The show is described as being "in the tradition of Carmen Jones and Cleopatra Jones" and is a musical adaptation of Aristophanes' company about a group of Greek women who deny their warrior men sex in order to put an end to an ongoing war.

The cast of a 2002 reading featured Sara Barnett, Michael Cyril Creighton, Daisy Eagan, John Maria, Troy Metcalf and Noah Weisberg.

Over the years, Beane has proved the company's most steady supplier of scripts, including As Bees in Honey Drown, the theatre's biggest success to date.

Flinn is a busy man himself. He is scoring Beane's Mondo Drama as well as the Vineyard Theatre's next production, Jeremy Dobrish's Eight Days (Backward).
