News   Beautiful Star Jessie Mueller Lands TV Role
Jessie Mueller, the Tony-winning star of Beautiful: The Carole King Story and announced to star on Broadway again this spring in Waitress, has been cast in a forthcoming new TV series, according to

Mueller reportedly will play a recurring role on the ABC-TV drama "The Family," which is scheduled to launch at a mid-season date to be announced. The star of the series is fellow Tony winner Joan Allen (Burn This). A production spokesperson for Waitress said, "She plays a recurring character but it is shooting now. It does not affect her role in Waitress."

Allen plays a politician who is reunited with her son, who disappeared a decade earlier, and had been presumed dead. Mueller will play "a cherubic and sweet bakeshop employee." It's a recurring character, which, in TV parlance, means a character who appears from time to time, not necessarily in every episode. "The Family" is being written by Jenna Bans.

Following a sold-out world-premiere production at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, MA, Sara Bareilles' new musical, Waitress, is scheduled to start Broadway previews March 25, 2016, and open April 24 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre with Mueller recreating her A.R.T. performance in the lead.
