Ireland’s Pan Pan Theatre will present Samuel Beckett’s radio play All That Fall at the Duke on 42nd Street, a New 42nd Street Project, in a room with ambient lighting and the audience seated in rocking chairs. The show, directed by Gavin Quinn, will be staged as part of Lincoln Center’s White Light Festival.

Sixty audience members will be seated in rocking chairs with skull-imprinted cushions and will experience the play through recorded voices and ambient lighting. Performances are scheduled to run November 9-12.

Penned in 1956, Beckett’s one-act radio play All That Fall was first broadcast on the BBC the following year. The story follows an Irish woman named Maddy, and, according to Pan Pan, is part black comedy, part murder mystery, and part “cryptic literary riddle.”

The White Light Festival of the arts, as billed by Lincoln Center, is “designed to illuminate the many dimensions of our interior lives.” The focus of this year’s festival is “what it means to be human in an increasingly fractious world”; it runs October 16-November 16 at various locations, including The Duke, the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, and Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater.
