PlayBlog Behind the Puppets of War Horse (Video) NBC profiled the Tony Award-winning Broadway play War Horse and how the magic is created each night onstage.

War Horse was adapted by Nick Stafford for the stage from Michael Morpurgo's 1982 coming-of-age children's novel. The production, which officially opened April 14 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater, features life-size puppets, a concept created by Basil Jones and Adrian Kohler of the Handspring Puppet Company, which have the capability of producing lifelike movement with the assistance of on-stage crew and actors.

“At the outbreak of World War I, Joey, young Albert’s beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. Joey is soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary odyssey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man’s land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a mission to find his horse and bring him home,” according to press notes.
