News Benedict Cumberbatch Joins Peter Weller, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and More for "Star Trek" Sequel Stage and screen actor Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast in the upcoming sequel to J.J. Abrams' 2009 "Star Trek" reboot, according to Deadline.com.

He will join previously announced actors Chris Pine (CTG's The Lieutenant of Inishmore) and Zachary Quinto (Angels in America), who are reprising their roles as Captain James Kirk and Spock, respectively. Alice Eve (Rock 'n' Roll) and Peter Weller (Summer Brave) have also been cast in the film.

The untitled film is scheduled for a May 17, 2013, release.

Cumberbatch was most recently seen on stage in the West End alternating the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature in Mary Shelly's Frankenstein at National's Olivier Theatre. He has also been seen in After the Dance and Hedda Gabler, as well as the film "War Horse."
