Terrence Mann originated the role of Javert in the premiere Broadway cast of
Les Miz and received a Tony Award nomination for his performance. The actor, who is also a Tony nominee for
Beauty and the Beast and
Pippin — in which he currently stars as King Charles — returned to the role towards the end of the show's run in 2003. He has also been seen on Broadway in
The Addams Family, Lennon, The Rocky Horror Show, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Getting Award with Murder, Jerome Robbins' Broadway, Rags, Cats and
Barnum.
Anthony Crivello, who appeared in the ensemble of the original cast of
Les Miz, succeeded Mann in the role of Javert. The actor, a Tony Award winner for his performance in
Kiss of the Spider Woman, also appeared in the 10th anniversary concert cast of
Les Misérables as Grantaire. His Broadway credits also include
Evita, The News, Marie Chirstine and
Golden Boy. He will next be seen Off-Broadway in the musical version of
Heathers.
Roger Allam, who can be heard on the original London cast recording, originated the role of Javert in the 1985 London production of
Les Misérables. The actor was seen on Broadway in
All's Well That Ends Well.
Australian actor Philip Quast, currently making his New York stage debut as Judge Turpin in the New York Philharmonic's March concert presentations of
Sweeney Todd at Avery Fisher Hall, played Javert in the 10th anniversary concert of
Les Miz. The actor has received the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical three times, the most of any actor to date. His theatre credits also include
Sunday in the Park with George and
South Pacific.
Norm Lewis, who was Tony-nominated for his performance as Porgy in
The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, took on the role of Javert in the 2006 Broadway revival and again in the 25th anniversary concert of the show at London's O2 arena. The actor has also been seen on Broadway in
Sondheim on Sondheim, The Little Mermaid, Amour, The Wild Party, Side Show, Chicago, The Who's Tommy and
Miss Saigon.

Russell Crowe, an Academy Award winner for his performance in "Gladiator," created the role of Javert for the screen in the star-studded film adaptation of
Les Misérables. The actor, who was Oscar-nominated for "A Beautiful Mind" and "The Insider," has also been seen in "L.A. Confidential," "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World," "Cinderella Man," "3:10 to Yuma," "American Gangster," "Body of Lies" and "Robin Hood," among others.
Robert Cuccioli, best known for his Tony Award-nominated turn in the dual leading roles in
Jekyll & Hyde, was a replacement in the original Broadway production of
Les Miz. The actor, currently starring in Off-Broadway's
Bikeman: A 9/11 Play, was recently seen as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin in the high-flying musical
Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark.
Gregg Edelman, a four-time Tony Award nominee for his performances in
City of Angels, Anna Karenina, 1776 and
Into the Woods, was a replacement in the original Broadway production of
Les Misérables. His long list of Broadway credits includes
Cats, Oliver! Anything Goes, Cabaret, Falsettos, Passion, Wonderful Town, A Tale of Two Cities and
The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
Drew Sarich replaced Norm Lewis in the Broadway revival of
Les Misérables.The actor, who was also seen on Broadway in
Lestat, starred in the German production of
Rocky.
Shuler Hensley, a Tony Award winner for his performance in
Oklahoma!, was a replacement in the original Broadway production of
Les Misérables. He has also been seen on Broadway in
Tarzan and
Young Frankenstein and currently stars in the repertory productions of
No Man's Land and
Waiting for Godot.
