News Big Fish Scribe John August Will Bring "Scary Stories" to the Big Screen John August, who has made a career of bringing fanciful stories to the screen, including "Big Fish," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "The Corpse Bride," has been tapped to adapt the hit children's book series "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" for CBS Films, Deadline.com reports.

The three-book series by Alvin Schwartz kicked off in 1981 with "Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark," followed by "More Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark" in 1984 and 1991's "Scary Stories 3: More Tales To Chill Your Bones."

August is a BAFTA nominee for the screenplay of the movie "Big Fish," which he also adapted for a Broadway musical in 2013. His screenwriting credits also include "Charlie's Angels," "Titan A.E." and "Dark Shadows."
