Tommy Mottola, The Mottola Media Group and The Dodgers are presenting the workshop, which will take place from June-August. Producers are anticipating a future Broadway production, though no official announcement has been made.

Directed and choreographed by Jones (Fela!, Spring Awakening), the musical's creative team has also tapped Tony Award nominee Rick Elice (Jersey Boys, Peter and the Starcatcher, The Addams Family) to co-author the book with the previously reported Seth Zvi Rosenfeld (Handball, A Brother's Kiss, The Writing on the Wall). Ron Melrose is musical director.

According to the notice, "Priest, aka Super Fly, rules the Harlem drug trade in the 1970s. But when Priest wants to leave the business and start a new life with the pregnant Georgia, the woman he loves, he finds that circumstances -- and a treacherous associate -- threaten to block off his escape..."

Super Fly utilizes the music of Curtis Mayfield, who earned acclaim for the soundtrack to the 1972 film of the same title, for its score. It also incorporates other songs from the 1970's R&B, soul, funk and pop era, according to the casting notice.

Jones first revealed his plans to turn the smash, 1972 blaxploitation film "Super Fly" into a stage musical at the 2010 Tony Awards, when he earned the Tony for Best Choreography for Fela!
