The awards are handed out at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts' Bluma Appel Theatre. Administered by the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts, the Doras address work in a number of categories: Dance, Opera, Theatre for Young Audiences, Musical Theatre, Independent Theatre and General Theatre.
Some of the more widely-known performers nominated are Louise Pitre (Outstanding Performance by a Female, A Year With Frog and Toad), and Tony Sheldon and Will Swenson (Outstanding Performance by a Male, Priscilla Queen of the Desert).
