Legally Blonde the Musical was named Best New Touring Musical, and Frost/Nixon earned the Best Touring Play Award.
The awards, which are presented by The Broadway League, "celebrate excellence in touring Broadway by honoring the artists and productions that visit cities across the country each year," according to press notes.
Presenters for the evening included Tony Award winners Liza Minnelli (Liza's at the Palace…; Cabaret; The Act; Flora, The Red Menace) and director Jerry Zaks (Six Degrees of Separation, Lend Me a Tenor, The House of Blue Leaves and Guys and Dolls).
In a statement Broadway League executive director Charlotte St. Martin said, "According to the League's newest Touring Broadway report, 15.3 million tickets were sold to Broadway Series across North America last season. Twenty-seven percent of those people also attended a Broadway show in New York City, which illustrates that theatregoers nationwide appreciate the best that Broadway has to offer. The Touring Broadway Awards recognize the extraordinary work and talent of all those involved who produce magic on stages across the country."
