It marks the first announcement of the play by actress Peet, who appeared in Barefoot in the Park on Broadway, as well as in the Off-Broadway premiere of Neil LaBute's The Break of Noon and This Is How It Goes. MTC artistic director Lynne Meadow will direct.
MTC artistic producer Mandy Greenfield issued the following statement about the project: "We are looking forward to producing the world premiere of The Commons of Pensacola, a play by Amanda Peet, directed by Lynne Meadow as part of our 2013-2014 season. We are in conversation with Blythe Danner and Sarah Jessica Parker about appearing in this timely, new play about a family weathering a major financial crisis."
Danner currently appears in the Broadway production of Nice Work If You Can Get It. Parker's last stage appearance was the MTC production of David Lindsay-Abaire's Wonder of the World.
