Classic Arts News Bob Stata, Bassist Who Accompanied Jazz Greats, Dies Bassist Bob Stata, who accompanied such musicians as Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, Marion McPartland, and Diane Schuur, died on June 21 of brain cancer, the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports. He was 52.
Stata also played with Barry Harris, Stanely Turrentine, Gene Bertoncini, Eric Reed, Bill Dobbins, and Fred Wesley. He recorded albums with Darrell Grant, Bob Sneider, and Rich Tompson, and played with the Rochester Philharmonic on Ellington is Forever.

As a band leader he recorded Solid State and Get This.
